About the Taiwan Education Intern Program
The Education Intern Program places recent Taiwanese graduates at accredited U.S. elementary and secondary schools for immersive, 10-12 month internship placements for the 2026-2027 school year. Funded by the American Institute in Taiwan and the Taiwan Ministry of Education, and administered by Cultural Exchange Network (Cenet), the program is designed to support U.S. teachers and classrooms while advancing young Taiwanese educators’ professional development and fostering meaningful cultural exchange between Taiwan and the United States.

Program Overview and Goals

Program Details
- Visa Category: J-1 Intern (BridgeUSA)
- Placement Setting: Accredited U.S. elementary and secondary schools; STEM and Mandarin teaching environments
- Program Length: 10-12 months (2026-27 school year; starting August 2026)
- Role Type: Education Intern (non-lead teaching role)
- Primary Purpose: Training, mentorship, and cultural exchange
- Elite Talent Pool: Participants are selected from Taiwan’s high-performing workforce which is globally recognized for excellence in math, science, and reading.
- Eligible Candidates: Students or recent graduates of Taiwanese universities who are pursuing, or have earned, a degree in teaching. Intermediate or advanced English skills required.
Costs & Compensation
The program operates under the J-1 Visa Intern category to ensure a structured and legal exchange with the support of a visa sponsor (Cenet).
- Comprehensive coverage: A grant covers visa sponsorship, health insurance, round-trip airfare and a modest monthly stipend for participating interns.
Interns are responsible for housing costs, personal living expenses, and the $185 J-1 visa application fee. - Fair compensation: Interns receive a stipend from their host school or organization, commensurate with similarly situated American peers.
This program creates a mutually beneficial exchange – supporting U.S. schools, developing future Taiwanese educators, and strengthening educational and cultural ties between both nations.
