Cenet Expands to Portland, Maine
J-1 Visa Sponsorship for Researchers, Specialists, Interns, Trainees, and Teachers
Cenet Strengthens Its Presence in New England
Cenet is pleased to announce the expansion of its North American presence with a new hub in New England. With offices in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Portland, Maine, this expanded footprint on the East Coast strengthens Cenet’s connections to two important assets: the world-renowned innovation ecosystem of Greater Boston and the international exchange talent and expertise concentrated in Portland.
Cenet’s New England team brings together more than 50 years of combined experience administering BridgeUSA (J-1 visa) programs.
From Cambridge, Phil Simon leads business development and government relations.
Based in Portland, the rest of the New England team includes Eleanor Villforth, Ian Curran, Erin Ackley, Abby Bouchard, and Maggie Ivanova. Their collective expertise spans professional exchanges, Research Scholar and Specialist programs, Intern and Trainee programming, Camp Counselor and Teacher exchanges, and customized international exchange initiatives, including the U.S. implementation of programs for the Baltic-American Freedom Foundation.
A New Hub With a Broader Reach
The launch of this New England hub reflects Cenet’s commitment to building high-quality teams that work closely together in support of our participants, partners, and mission. The New England operation complements Cenet’s deep roots in the American Heartland and its headquarters in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, while expanding the organization’s ability to engage with leading institutions, employers, and exchange partners across the region.
We are proud to bring together such an experienced and mission-driven team in New England and look forward to strengthening connections between international talent and U.S. communities with J-1 visa sponsorship in Portland, Maine.

Building on Cenet’s Professional Exchange Programs
Bolstered by the Portland expansion, Cenet continues to support U.S. organizations and international participants through a range of Professional Exchange programs.
As a U.S. Department of State-designated BridgeUSA (J-1 visa) sponsor, Cenet sponsors several professional exchange categories, including Research Scholar, Specialist, Intern, Trainee, and Teacher programs.
BridgeUSA's professional exchange programs are among America's most effective instruments of commercial diplomacy. They connect future global leaders with American institutions, workplaces, and communities, creating relationships that strengthen innovation, economic cooperation, and mutual understanding. These programs advance public diplomacy objectives while simultaneously building the human and professional networks that underpin long-term U.S. competitiveness and influence.

Local Presence, Broader Reach
Portland is just the newest chapter in an organization with roots that reach back three decades.
Cenet was established in 1996 and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to international education and cultural exchange. In addition to its Professional Exchanges and Teacher Program, Cenet sponsors BridgeUSA programs for Camp Counselors and Summer Work Travel participants and operates the Magellan Exchange for academic exchanges.
The new Portland presence builds on this commitment by continuing to work with organizations and participants seeking meaningful professional, educational, and cultural exchange.
